Description
October 2, 2012 marked Iris Dement’s first release of original songs in 16 years, Sing the Delta. The twelve song collection is a remarkable album many critics determined more than worth the wait. Known for her distinct voice and honest and personal lyrics, Dement blends hard core country with gospel to deliver a sometimes gut-wrenching ("Before the Colors Fade"), often endearing ("Mama Was Always Telling The Truth") experience that is sure to please. Certainly one of County Music’s most respected artists Iris Dements music and discography can seem paradoxical; cautious and sparse, her career includes a modest 5 albums over the course of two decades. Her collaborations speak volumes about the respect and adoration she enjoys from her colleagues. Ralph Stanley, Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris and John Prine are counted among her many collaborators. 2010 saw her song “Leaning on the Everlasting Arms” as the closing track for the Coen brothers remake of the classic western True Grit.
